Biography:

Daniel Verhagen, MBA is a distinguished professor and curriculum developer at a growing list of private and public post-secondary institutions in the Lower Mainland and remotely across Canada; Stenberg College and Conestoga College to name a couple renowned for his contributions to the field of business ethics, marketing, and app or web development.

Outside of his work in academia, Daniel is the founder and president of a marketing and business development company called UrBiz Marketing, having worked with several well-known brands and not-for-profits like SAXX Underwear and 3M.

With over 10+ years of experience in the Marketing, Business Development, and Post-Secondary education sectors, Mr. Verhagen has dedicated his career to advancing our understanding of building and implementing marketing strategies and their components to drive the best results possible, making significant impacts both locally and internationally.

Education:

Mr. Verhagen received his undergraduate degree from Western University, majoring in Social Sciences, and a collegiate diploma in Marketing from Fanshawe College. He pursued further studies at the University of Fredericton, where he earned his MBA in Business Analytics Leadership, and he has a goal of achieving his PhD in Consumer Behavior over the next five years.

Education is something that he holds in high regard; he currently sits on the Student Advisory Board of the University of Fredericton and founded a scholarship to improve post-secondary education accessibility for secondary school students with difficult home lives. Daniel’s past upbringing within the foster care system informed the creation of the scholarship and his current servitude as an Ambassador for the Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada.

Career:

Mr. Verhagen’s career began at tbk Creative, where he worked onsite with one of their largest clients 3M Canada, driving category growth for well-known brands Command and Nexcare. Since then, he has managed his own marketing company UrBiz Marketing to handle marketing projects for close to 50 happy clients.

Outside of owning his own company, he has been involved in many entrepreneurial ventures both locally and internationally. Additionally, he has held various in-house positions at Clinical Research Dental, Lone Wolf Technologies, and Rodents Away Odor Free, contributing to industry-specific marketing strategies and research, designed to grow products, categories, and organizations as a whole through both leadership and innovation.

Mr. Verhagen has also made significant contributions to education, having taught in business programs at multiple Canadian post-secondary institutions. His work on process developments for organizations to build a cohesive marketing strategy that fosters internal and external communication excellence has been especially influential.

Research and Achievements:

Throughout his career, Mr. Verhagen has been at the forefront of widely applicable marketing strategy development and education, with a keen focus on making the building blocks for building successful marketing workflows available, which focuses on internal process development for external communications success. While he has not published peer-reviewed work at this time, Mr. Verhagen has used his entrepreneurial experience to publish a cookbook and grow an upscale bar food and drink brand on social media, titled “Tatted in the Kitchen”.

Mr. Verhagen’s excellence in marketing strategy development and education has led to him being a recognized alumnus from Sir Frederick Banting Secondary School and Fanshawe College. Furthermore, his philanthropic and education-based passions have led to him being an active member of The University of Fredericton’s Student Advisory Board, an Ambassador for the Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada, the founder and funder of the Daniel Verhagen Road to Success Scholarship, and marketing consultant to Impact Guatemala.

Teaching and Mentoring:

As a professor at Conestoga College, Stenberg College, University of Fredericton, and Fanshawe College, Mr. Verhagen has taught courses on digital performance analytics, mobile application and web development, business ethics, and marketing strategy components, shaping the next generation of business development professionals. He is deeply committed to mentoring young professionals and students, guiding them through their research projects and careers.

Mr. Verhagen’s personal philosophy is teaching and learning things that are applicable or of interest.
“Life is short, and it would be a waste to spend it on learning unusable skills or doing things that don’t spark joy for you.”
